Five Reasons For Cage Fracture In Crossed Roller Bearings

The fracture of the cage of the crossed roller bearing belongs to the occasional abnormal failure mode, and the main reasons are as follows:

  a. Abnormal load of the cage. If the installation is not in place, inclined, and the amount of interference is too large, the clearance will be reduced, the friction and heat generation will be aggravated, the surface will soften, and abnormal peeling will occur prematurely. The operation of the cage is blocked and additional load is generated, which aggravates the wear of the cage, and such a worsened cycle may cause the cage to break.

  b. Poor lubrication mainly refers to the operation of the crossed roller bearing in a state of lean oil, which is easy to form adhesive wear, which deteriorates the working surface condition. The rack is broken.

  c. The intrusion of foreign objects is a common mode of cage fracture failure. Due to the intrusion of foreign hard foreign matter, the wear of the cage is aggravated and abnormal additional load is generated, which may also cause the cage to break.

  d. Creep phenomenon is also one of the reasons for the fracture of the cage. In the sliding phenomenon of the so-called creep multi-finger ferrule, when the interference of the mating surface is insufficient, the load point moves to the peripheral direction due to sliding, resulting in the phenomenon that the ferrule deviates in the circumferential direction relative to the shaft or housing. Once creep occurs, the mating surface wears significantly, and the wear powder may enter the inside of the crossed roller bearing, resulting in abnormal wear, peeling of the raceway, wear of the cage, and additional load, which may cause the cage to break.

  e. Cage material defects (such as cracks, large foreign metal inclusions, shrinkage holes, air bubbles) and riveting defects (missing nails, pad nails or gaps between the two half cage joint surfaces, serious riveting), etc. may cause retention The frame is broken, and countermeasures are taken to be strictly controlled in the manufacturing process.
